Hypothesis
This study aims to summarize the characteristics of children under three years old with central nervous system tumors and to investigate the factors that influence their overall survival time.
Conclusion
GTR remains the cornerstone of treatment for children with CNS tumors, with certain factors significantly affecting overall survival.
Supporting Evidence
- The median survival time of low-grade malignant tumors was 41.5 months, while that of high-grade malignant tumors was 15 months.
- Kaplan–Meier survival analysis identified the extent of resection and CNS WHO grade as significant factors influencing overall survival.
- Children with high-grade malignancies continue to have a poor prognosis.
Takeaway
This study looked at kids under three with brain tumors and found that how much of the tumor is removed during surgery is really important for how long they live.
Methodology
The study treated 171 pediatric patients with CNS tumors and used Kaplan–Meier survival analysis and Cox regression to evaluate factors influencing overall survival.
Potential Biases
Potential biases related to patient sources and treatment variations.
Limitations
The study was a single-center investigation and did not use the latest CNS WHO grading criteria.
Participant Demographics
171 pediatric patients, with a male predominance (103 males, 68 females), aged 0-3 years.
