Hypothesis
The study aims to evaluate the outcome of distal radius fractures with metaphyseal and diaphyseal involvement treated with fixed angle volar plates.
Conclusion
Fixed angle volar plates were demonstrated to be a safe and efficient treatment in these challenging fractures.
Supporting Evidence
- All fractures except one united by an average of 90 days.
- Radiographs showed optimal reduction in 17 of 21 cases.
- 14 patients showed excellent results according to the Mayo wrist rating system.
Takeaway
Doctors used special plates to fix broken wrists, and most patients healed well in about three months.
Methodology
Twenty-one patients with distal radius fractures were treated with fixed angle volar plates and followed up with radiographs and DASH scores.
Limitations
The sample size is not very large and includes inhomogeneous samples with respect to fracture type and age.
Participant Demographics
6 female and 15 male patients, average age 41 (range 24–73 years).
