Hypothesis
To provide a Farsi version of three cognitive and general function scales for use in Iran.
Conclusion
FDRS and FGOAT had appropriate validity and reliability, while the FGOSE scale showed low inter-rater agreement in its 8-level outcome but better agreement in its 5-level outcome.
Supporting Evidence
- Factor analysis for Farsi-GOAT revealed 5 independent factors with a total distribution variance of 80.2%.
- Cronbach’s alpha for FGOAT was 0.84 and for FDRS was 0.91.
- Pearson Correlation between total scores of two raters was 0.98 for FGOAT and 0.97 for FDRS.
- Kappa coefficient for FGOSE was 0.4 for 8-level outcome and improved to 0.7 for 5-level scale.
- Spearman’s rho between FDRS and FGOSE predicted prognoses was 0.74.
Takeaway
The researchers translated important tests for brain injury patients into Persian, and found that two of the tests worked well, but one needed improvement.
Methodology
The study involved translating three cognitive function scales into Farsi and assessing their validity and reliability through interviews with patients.
Limitations
The sample size was relatively small, and there was no repeatability assessment for reliability due to the fast recovery of patients.
Participant Demographics
38 patients with closed head injury, 6 female and 32 male, mean age 34 years.
