Hypothesis
There is variability in gymnemic acid content and morphological characteristics of Gymnema sylvestre collected from different regions.
Conclusion
Non-destructive harvesting practice did not negatively impact the overall development of the plant, and there is significant variation in gymnemic acid content among different accessions.
Supporting Evidence
- Gymnemic acid content varied between 0.96% and 1.58% in leaves from different locations.
- Non-destructive harvesting allowed for sustainable collection without harming the plant.
- Leaves left during the first harvest matured by the second harvest.
Takeaway
This study shows that we can collect leaves from the Gudmar plant without hurting it, and that the amount of gymnemic acid in the leaves can be different depending on where they come from.
Methodology
Gymnema germplasm was collected from various regions and evaluated for morphological characteristics and gymnemic acid content using HPLC.
