Conclusion

The patient with AFP-producing lung adenocarcinoma had a successful surgery and showed no signs of tumor recurrence.

Supporting Evidence

  • The patient had an elevated serum AFP level of 4620 ng/ml.
  • Immunostaining confirmed the tumor cells were AFP-positive.
  • The patient had a favorable postoperative course with serum AFP returning to normal.

Takeaway

This study talks about a rare type of lung cancer that produces a protein called AFP. A 69-year-old man had surgery for this cancer and is doing well now.

Methodology

The patient underwent a transbronchial lung biopsy and right lower lobectomy with mediastinal lymph node dissection.

Limitations

The study is based on a single case report, limiting the generalizability of the findings.
