Hypothesis
The study aims to investigate the correlation between radiotherapy or clinicohistopathological parameters and the expression of melan-A and tyrosinase in uveal melanoma.
Conclusion
The expression of melanocytic markers such as melan-A and tyrosinase is not influenced by radiotherapy or any clinico-pathological parameter.
Supporting Evidence
- Melan-A was positive in 33 (91.7%) of the specimens.
- Tyrosinase was positive in 35 (97.2%) of the specimens.
- All specimens were positive for at least one of the immunohistochemical markers.
Takeaway
This study looked at how two markers, melan-A and tyrosinase, are found in eye tumors called uveal melanoma, and it found that these markers are always present, no matter the treatment.
Methodology
Thirty-six enucleated cases of uveal melanoma were studied using immunohistochemical staining with monoclonal antibodies against melan-A and tyrosinase.
Limitations
The study could not perform statistical analysis for the timing of radiotherapy due to the small number of negative results.
Participant Demographics
The sample included 36 patients, 23 males (63.9%) and 13 females (36.1%), with a mean age of 65 years.
